I really enjoy mentoring kids! Over the years, I've been a reading mentor with elementary school students and a law school teaching assistant specializing in helping minority students improve their writing and test-taking skills. I've helped many co-workers and volunteers develop their leadership and project organization/management skills.

I've done a lot of coaching to help people improve their skills in planning, grant writing, project development and organization. I also do a lot of editing for public information and other materials.

I've traveled extensively in Europe and South America and in some areas of SE Asia.

I was a licensed attorney in Alaska but I used my legal training in public policy areas rather than "traditional" law. I worked for three non-profits and was the director of the Office of Management and Budget for the mayor of Anchorage, Alaska (3 years) and the Democratic governor of Alaska (8 years).

I've done a lot of paid and volunteer organizing for non-profits as well as issue/political campaigns. I'm on the steering groups of Indivisible Port Townsend (currently working on the mid-term elections) and Community Build (building temporary shelters for the homeless and other ways to meet Jefferson County's housing needs).

I was the founding director of an Alaska non-profit for families of children with disabilities. In the early 80's, I worked in remote Alaska Native villages as a program director with the Alaska Native Foundation.
