Briefly describe the program, volunteer work, or partnerships you or your organization may offer.
Rotary, founded in 1905, is dedicated to six areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever. Rotarians work at every level of society, from individuals, through local groups and communities, to international groups and projects. The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County, a group of 60 local men and women raging in age from 19 to 92, is actively supporting the Jefferson Teen Center (JTC), and is interested in extending mentorship and advisorship to the students supported by the JTC.

The members of the Rotary Club of East Jefferson County have actively supported Chimacum Schools for many years. The range of experience of members range from an active, nationally-known midwife teacher to school teachers and administrators, retired business executives, media experts, retired military officers, and working men and women from business owners and employees to librarians. Many of us have had children in our families and share an affinity for children seeking mentorship and advisorship. We would like to learn more about the current mentorship/advisorship environment and Chimacum School perspectives as we expand our support of Chimacum Schools.

You have indicated an expertise in Architecture and Construction
I am familiar with and have experience in general woodworking, craft woodworking, wooden boat construction, and basic furniture construction with both hand tools and power tools. I am actively engaged in craft-level and maritime repair projects. See my additional comments about my experience, above.
You have indicated an expertise in Maritime Trades and Usage
As an active duty officer in the United States Navy, I commanded two surface ships, and served in a number of ships and staffs afloat and ashore for 27 years. The first ship I commanded was based in Seattle, and the second ship I commanded was based in Japan. I am knowledgeable about maritime planning and movement, the use of charts and related software, the skills needed to lead and manage ships of up to 350 crew, and maintain my expertise in plans and coordination, and maritime movement planning and execution.

I am an active member of many maritime-related organizations, including the Port Townsend Pocket Yachters, the Classic Yacht Association, the Pacific Northwest Tool Collectors, and the Port Townsend Yacht Club, to name but a few.
You have indicated an expertise in Military and Police Service
As an active duty officer in the United States Navy, served in ships and staffs afloat and ashore for 27 years. I have served in surface Navy combatant ships, destroyers and frigates, at every level from entry to command (of two ships) based on both the US East and West Coast as well as in Japan, have deployed to nearly every ocean area in the world, and have received years of training in technical engineering and command-related Navy and cross-Service (Joint) schools. I have served in staffs from those coordinating 9 ships to those responsible for 50 ships and staffs, and in Washington DC have served at the senior staff level for both the Navy and the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon, coordinating with State Department staff, Congressional staff and many others and briefing senior officials of both military and civilian rank. I commanded two ships, one based in Seattle and one based in Yokosuka, Japan (about 35 miles south of Tokyo).
