4-H is a nation-wide (http://4-H.org) model for positive-youth-development programming, and is the largest (nearly 6 million youth) and one of the oldest (since 1902) providers of youth programming in the country. Washington State University’s 4-H youth development program has partnered with Jefferson County to provide innovative volunteer- and community-supported programs that foster positive youth development, skill building, and community engagement, through activities such as the 4-H “Know Your Government” program, low-ropes course and other challenge programs, mountain biking and sailing, STEM and robotics, outdoor education, animal science (with animals that range from amphibians to yaks), shooting sports, home and expressive arts, and school enrichment and afterschool programs.
