Youth Environmental Stewards - YES!

"Base Camp" for TEENS – eight weeks: May 1 - June 26.

Within social distancing/Covid 19 protocols, NWI will first offer six weeks of outdoor activities you can do from your "Home Base" and within your "Natural Range" -- places you can walk or bike to that your parent or guardian agrees are safe.

As a group, YES! Base Camp will meet twice a week via online video conferencing: once to kick off a new weekly theme and outdoor options, and again to meet special guest experts. Themes include: local plants and animal ID and ecology, sustainable food production, honing outdoor and camping skills, and more. Applicants will have input and a lot of choice among activities.

Participants receive the gear and materials they need to complete the program.

The last two weeks (mid-late June) participants design and do an independent (mentored) outdoor project. Overall, plan to spend 10+ hours a week outside during the 8-week program, for a total of 80+ hours per person.

Those who successfully complete the 80+ hour program will e invited to be NWI Crew Leaders and receive a YES! sweatshirt, boots and gloves.

Thanks to a grant from Washington State's "No Child Left Inside" grant, the program is free to 20 teen participants age 14-19.

Not for school credit.

Great motivator to get off the screen and back to nature.
